NICS in May, 2020, President Trump as Greatest Gun Salesman, ever?

Millions of law-abiding citizens submit to background checks, as intimated by the president's comment to reporters. (Dave Workman) U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- The National Instant background Check System (NICS) numbers have been released for May, 2020. As expected, they are breaking records. They are, at 3,066,740, the second-largest single month for NICS checks, ever, only exceeded by December, 2015. The continuing, growing number of NICS checks for carry permits and carry permit rechecks, rend...

Arizona's Sean Miller adds international flavor to roster

Filling the gaps left by three potential first-round NBA picks, Miller signed a 2020 class that features six international and one U.S.-born player. ''We set out as far back as a couple of years to mix it in and make it a part of what we do,'' Miller said during a video call this week. Arizona has consistently had top-10 recruiting classes under Miller, except for 2018, when an FBI investigation into shady recruiting practices swirled around the program.

Native American tribes' pandemic response is hamstrung by many inequities

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is novel, but pandemic threats to indigenous peoples are anything but new. Now COVID-19 is having similarly devastating impacts in Indian country. Some reservations are reporting infection rates many times higher than those observed in the general U.S. population. We are social scientists who study many aspects of environmenta...

Rockies manager Bud Black has high praise for Long Beach State alum Garrett Hampson

Imagine being a rookie in Major League Baseball. You’ve already been sent down to the minors twice, your batting average is poor and you are asked to make a change in your swing with just more than a month left in the season. No pressure, though. Apparently not, because former Long Beach State shortstop Garrett Hampson handled it as well as a manager could ask. He was batting .182 at the end of April 2019 for the Colorado Rockies and was still just above the Mendoza Line at .208 in late August b...

Where USC stands at WR and TE entering 2020 season

USC football’s offense in 2020 will benefit from the return of quarterback Kedon Slovis and the vast majority of his weapons at the skill positions. That’s especially true at wide receiver and tight end, a group that lost just one contributor from last season’s group, Michael Pittman Jr., who is off to the Indianapolis Colts. Everyone else is back, plus some exciting additions, to give the passing game a litany of options. Here’s a look at where USC’s wide receiver and tight end positions sit he...
