Mark the New GM Hummer Revival as Model

The Hummer brand, the descendant name of the Gulf War-era Humvee, will apparently “relaunch” in 2022, with a planned Super Bowl commercial, according to The Wall Street Journal. It will be electric, and a new model for GMC. Early reports did not have it as a revival of the Hummer make, only a revival of the name as a car model. The ad will reportedly feature LeBron James. Hummer began as a civilian version of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or Humvee, made by AM General. That veh...

Bosch’s Virtual Sun Visor uses an LCD screen to cut the glare without cutting your view

Its animated-PowerPoint video editing aside, Bosch does make a pretty good point. We’ve innovated in every part of the car, except the sin visor. The visor, although designed with good intent, is often obstructive, as it reduces your visibility in its effort to shade your eyes. The fact that you can’t wear heavily tinted sun-glasses while driving (in most parts of the world) just further aggravates the matter because you’re faced with one of two issues when you’re driving with the sun shining ...

2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Review: The Old Boat Still Sails

In Our Editorial Opinion: The 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is perfect for an off-road enthusiast, but as a daily driver it might be hard to justify. Those who like rugged-looking vehicles and off-road tech will fall head over heels; yet those wanting a more traditional SUV will be wasting their money. SUVs today are expensive as is, and with the poor fuel economy and the Sequoia's age, the TRD Pro is more of a want versus a need. Still, if you love it and gotta have it, the Sequoia TRD Pro...

Recovering Yagi's Repair Kit and a visit from the Machidas

The original plan had been, as I woke this morning, to meet up with Bridget and Richard Machida as their RV (Mando) passed a few miles from my BLM campsite on the I-10 Super Slab as they drove towards Benson, AZ.I was prepping Yagi to go out later to meet them near the highway and I discovered that I was missing both my green boonie hat (small loss) but also the repair kit I'd assembled for Yagi, my Yamaha TW200 Dualsport! This wasn't a small loss I was willing to recreate from scratch as the box...

The 2020 Hyundai Venue is a critical part of the automaker’s SUV strategy. It’s affordable and efficient, and ideal for buyers shopping on a budget.A new engine and generous tech options make the Venue attractive. Harman is redesigning its in-car audio systems specifically for electric vehicles

I bet you didn’t know this but car stereos can often be power guzzlers. A decent car audio setup can pull anywhere from 200 to 500 watts RMS of power depending on the number of speaker units, the size of the car, and the bass module. That isn’t really much of a concern when you’ve got a fuel-powered automobile but in an electric vehicle, any sort of efficiency can go a long way in making a car perform better. Harman (which got acquired by Samsung in late 2016) is looking to redesign its audio ...

Arai Is The Helmet To Buy

The helmet in the photo above was run over by another motorcycle at high speed during a race. The wearer walked away without sustaining a head injury. Take a moment to let that soak in. I’m often asked by people who know I test riding gear which helmet to buy or which is the best. I take that as a compliment and love to help where I can by using the knowledge I’ve worked hard to gain doing this “job”. I’ve Been On The Fence For Too Long After wearing and testing many different helmets f...

Another errand, another view of Picacho Peak and Varmints in the camp

Friday, January 10Left camp soon after 7AM to ride Fiona, my '99 Ural the 30 miles to the Ina Road Harbor Freight Tools in the northern portion of the Tucson Metro area.  I was exchanging the solar panel set I'd just exchanged on Thursday as it had not worked out of the box!Boy, it was cold riding in the early morning darkness, waiting for the sun to come out and warm things up a bit.  I found myself warming my gloved hands on Fiona's engine's jugs, one hand alternating with the other on the thr...

Extreme Green: A Kawasaki ZRX1200R by deBolex

After a while , a lot of custom designs tend to blend into a homogenous soup: variations on a standard recipe, slightly tweaked by the individual chefs. A handful of top builders specialize in less mainstream flavors though. One of them is Calum Pryce-Tidd of the south London workshop deBolex Engineering, who often starts with unconventional ingredients—such as an Energica Eva or a Yamaha MT-10. The latest build from Calum and his offsider Des Francis is based on the mighty Kawasaki ZRX120...

VW knows it must become a tech company to compete with Tesla

German marque, and the world’s largest car maker by sales, Volkswagen (VW) appears to be wising up to the changing landscape of the automobile world. In a meeting with more than 100 company managers in Berlin this week, VW CEO Herbert Diess said that the company will have to “slaughter some sacred cows” and transform into a tech company if it’s to survive, the FT reports. In other words, VW is going to have to retire beloved vehicles in favor of greener alternatives. It seems that VW is growing ...

Hiking to the top of Picacho Peak,AZ

I'd had my reservations, what with my bum ankle and all, but today decided might as well see how tough it was to hike to the top of nearby Picacho  Peak.  I had sure taken enough pictures of it over the last few days!Got there around 9:30AM and by 9:43 had stowed away my riding gear and started hiking up  Hunter Trail which leads one to the top of the peak.  The other way is to walk about 4 miles more roundtrip from the Sunset Trail Head further into the park; its supposed to be an easier climb ...

BMW kills off its i8 hybrid sports car to make way for all-electric models

German automaker BMW has confirmed the end is in sight for its i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. BMW will cease production of the i8 sometime in April this year, making way for the marque’s upcoming line of all electric battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs), Autocar reports. The flagship car of BMW’s electric/hybrid range first reached market back in 2014. Don’t worry though, if you loved the high-performance, high-economy sports car that was the i8, BMW is expected to fill the gap in the next fiv...

Some more T-Dubing on BLM Land and back to Owl Head Buttes

Today's riding involved my Yamaha TW200, Yagi and wandering about the BLM land just northwest of the junction of Park Link Road and Owl Head Ranch Road. Got lost a couple of times but each time my GPS app: Pocket Earth, pointed me in the right direction.  Lots of sandy stretches that were not as much fun as when riding on packed dirt. Once I made it back to the highway entrance.  I headed over to Owl Head Ranch Road and soon enough I was back at the abandoned ranch house from the othe...

Take Ellen, the electric-powered ferry that sails the west Baltic sea, for example. Unlike Sony’s recent shock concept car announcement, Ellen is in action and was ready to welcome its first customer aboard late last year. Tesla nosedives in Norwegian consumer satisfaction rankings — but drivers stay loyal

According to recent figures, Tesla looks to be falling out of favor with Norwegian owners. In BI Norwegian Business School’s annual Customer Barometer survey, Tesla ranked 51st by satisfaction across all industries researched, and 12th among car makers. Norway‘s Tesla owners gave the company a satisfaction rating of 75.5 in 2019. This is down from the EV manufacturer’s 2018 rating of 82.8.
